Wausau High School Class of 1966Reunion TidbitsWHS Class of 1966 – 40th year class reunion. Saturday, July 29, 2006 ‘highlights’ Berland Meyer, husband of Bev Rydell Meyer, and retired Deputy Superintendent of Wausau Schools, gave a wonderfully detailed presentation/tour of the NEW WEHS Building. It is a beautiful facility. Among other items, brought to it from the “old” WHS is ‘our own’ basketball court centerpiece, which hangs in the new gymnasium. A wheat shaft insignia is also incorporated into some areas of the school. All could see that much thought and care was taken in the construction and decorating process . Golf
WAS NOT rained out.
The sun arrived in time, and 21 people thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
The best ball, in each group, was played.
Winners were the Stu Rosemurgy, Guy Reynolds,
Rob & Mary Brodhead team. Some
say they used an ‘eraser’ a lot???? (…did that
rumor occur because Terry Allen’s team took 2nd)??? The rule in
our golf outing was that EACH person’s tee off shot had to be used AT LEAST ONCE.
For ‘some reason’ no one in her group ever wanted to use Diane
Waldinger’s shot…therefore,
at the 9th tee there was no recourse…. not saying what happened,
but that hole has a water hazard… A classmate group photo was taken outside of the VFW on River Drive @ 4:45PM. The ‘picnic style’ VFW buffet was well done—potato salad, pickles, sloppy joes, turkey BBQ, veggies & dip, and lots of cake to go around. All was appetizing and we heard NO food complaints. Leo Kosta, husband of Dawn Gorski Kosta, put on a 20 minute comic/magic show. He was entertaining and delightful. Huge kudos and applause for a fun contribution to our wonderful reunion. Connie Schepp and Karen Kersten Meuret shared MC duties. Each did wonderfully with their comments and presentations. UNIFIED SOUL is the band that played . Great music…lots of dancing. “Old Time Rock and Roll” and “Louie-Louie” remain the dance faves. Mike Schott and Rob Flannery were part of the band. We enjoyed , tremendously, their singing and instrument-playing talents. The Silent Auction went well. Each of the 11 items sold. These were special, Wausau- themed items, 6 of which were matted, sketched prints of “our” WHS building. The auction was held due to going ‘slightly’ over budget. Any proceeds will be put into a start-up fund for the next reunion and/or (depending) a scholarship donation. There were 5 ‘prizes’ given … MOST GRANDCHILDREN / Linda Werth Nesseth ( 11 Beanie Babies) MOST DISTANCE TRAVELED TO ATTEND / Susan Forsmo (U.S. Atlas) LAST RSVP received / Rick Bliese (18 month Planner/datebook) MOST HUMOROUS WEB GUESTBOOK ENTRY / Blair aka Keith Peshak (Galileo Thermometer) Thank You Reply Note & Lab Report From B. Keith Peshak A vote was taken favoring another reunion in 2016. Stay tuned on that…if anyone changes residences, PLEASE email someone connected with the 2006 reunion to update your address. FINDING people is, in and of itself, the GREATEST TASK in putting a reunion together. Everyone expressed sincere appreciation to the reunion committee, and especially Karen Kersten Meuret. It was a FUN and memorable time. The last attendees left the VFW at 1AM. Watch the website for photos….stay tuned for updates on future reunions.
